That’s a difficult question – I tried 4, maybe 5 dresses and I was able to “live” in them quite comfortably (in fact, I’m using one as ‘nightdress’ – I can freely raise arms or bend over). However, no matter whether I picked a colourful long one or little black dress, I looked in the mirror and I wasn’t satisfied with the overall look. Not sure whether this is low self-esteem or feeling not comfortable enough in it, or simply didn’t get used to it so far. Obviously, haven’t tried to go outside in such yet.
And regarding selection, I try to pick ones with long sleeve and ‘belt’ to indicate my waist line (or rather make a little fat belly align more vertically and give better impression of this part of my body).
I do the exact same thing when selecting a dress to wear. Unfortunately, it’s hard for me to find long sleeves that actually go down to my wrists. My shoulders are too wide and my arms are too long. I even have problems with some men’s shirts. Dresses cut for women’s bodies just generally don’t fit my body shape unfortunately.
I have the same issue with not being satisfied with the overall look. I just find they don’t fit me very well…
Can’t vote (second time here that a poll doesn’t present with a voting option). But if I could, I would have voted “depends” Clearly many dresses are sized and shaped for a woman’s body, and for the most part such tailored (also stretchy “bodycon”) styles are fails. However, tunic dresses, shift dresses, drop-waist dresses, and some slip dresses can fit well and look good without major alterations. And I like them.
That’s very frustrating. I’ll see if I can figure out why that happens. Sorry about that…
I haven’t tried many types of dresses, although maybe I should try a few more to see if I can find a type that fits me well. I’ll have to see if I can raid my wife’s closet.
