By basic definition a kilt is a type of skirt, plain and simple. The Scots and ardent kilt wearers will vehemently refute that, but it is what it is. Calling a kilt a skirt shouldn’t be considered an insult.
I absolutely agree! I call it a skirt in my posts here because it is a type of skirt for me.
I agree!
It is long past time for Kilt wearers to acknowledge they are wearing a skirt! I’ve had several people ask me if “that is a kilt you are wearing” and take glee in telling them “it is just a skirt” (which in my case it is) as that starts to open the door that a man can wear skirts as well as the ‘approved’ kilt! Twice nurses told me they knew better, but had to ask/say ‘kilt’ because some men were offended when they used the word skirt!
I agree entirely. It’s funny how what a garment is called can make a difference in people’s perspective on it. Calling it a skirt rather than a kilt suddenly adds a new layer of social forbiddeness to it that wasn’t there before. To me, it makes it more thrilling and fun, but it also made it more nerve-wracking at the beginning, even if it shouldn’t technically make any difference at all…
