This is another great article about how more male celebrities are embracing the skirt as part of their wardrobe. Not only are there a lot of pictures of various celebrities donning a skirt, but they also add a bunch of tips as to how best to style a skirt.

Nowadays, seeing men in skirts on runways is almost a given, much like florals for spring. In fact, they have become so deeply ingrained…

I like the practical, no-drama flavor of that article. Of course, most of the style tips offered are equally appropriate for conventional menswear! To wit, “A casual outing with friends might call for a more relaxed, comfortable [“skirt,” but equally pants, shirt, jacket, etc.], while a formal event might require something more dressy.” That’s fine. It shows very clearly that skirts are as adaptable, appropriate, and workable for men as two-holed bottoms. Semper vestis lacinia! Excelsior!
I agree. It really does show that skirts can be worked into men’s fashion just as easily as any type of pants. If only more men would consider doing it, it would become more normal much more quickly.
For me, a straight white male, it’s about comfort. I don’t want to send out the wrong message or be the stand out. It was explained to me that being the only one wearing a kilt at a wedding would upstage the bride. Taking attention away from her day.
I prefer not to stand out because of my clothing but because who I am. I wore a kilt on a cruise ship. Very comfortable especially after a long day ashore. I got the question “why” and it registered when I said comfort. Had no problems in Europe walking around in a simple kilt. Could have been a unisex skirt.
Skirts don’t have to be about “sex”.
Comfort plays a huge role for me as well. It’s amazing how comfortable they are. I also would rather not stand out because of my clothing, but in a way, it is an outward expression of who I am. So for me, it’s hard to seperate standing out because of my clothing and standing out because of who I am.
I’ve walked around in Germany in a kilt many times and have only been questioned about it a couple of times. It seems like I get more comments when wearing a kilt out than a skirt. That probably has something to do with people’s level of comfort though. A man in a skirt is too odd and they would rather just not associate with him.
