This article from Esquire has been making the rounds recently and I thought it was very interesting. It discusses some of the previous movements for genderless fashion, particularly as it pertains to men wearing what is generally considered to be women’s clothing.

Sharp Dress, Man
Attempts to erase the barriers between attire for a man and a woman aren’t new. Can we finally get a true fluidity in the way we all dress?

Seeing the picture of David Bowie (David Jones) reminds me of being at school looking at the old Black n White pictures of the whole school and trying to spot him can not remember if anyone ever did !!
I find it interesting that men’s fashion is about covering a man from neck down with clothing and women’s fashion is about exposing as much skin as legally possible. Are men’s bodies that ugly? I remember the day when cut offs were really short, basketball shorts were short and there were men’s short shorts. What happened?
All you have to do is watch the evening news, it could be snowing outside and the weather girl is in a mini skirt and a very open blouse. While the man will have on a coat and tie.
Just an observation
Like I said before – if men still want to look like same-suit rats or very similar streetwear sets, then obviously this is going to stay the way it is today. At this point we don’t know what Gen Z folks will choose in later years, whether the dressing freedom will still be a subject or just gone. Still, we have some examples here of older males wearing skirts and even if that’s a seriously small niche, there’s still someone who’s doing it for ‘self’, not for any kind of confrontation or attention.
