Ignoring the grossly male-gazey Asian schoolgirl gyrating in a micro-mini in this video, the idea that men’s skirts are promoting gender-neutral fashion strikes me as being a tad confused. It’s not gender-neutral if it has the prefix “men’s” attached to it. It’s promoting gendered fashion equity, but not neutrality.
You are right about that. I assume they are just using “men’s”, however, as a way to show that there are skirts out there that are even marketed towards men even if that in itself isn’t gender-neutral. I look at it a little bit like when you go shampoo shopping and see shampoo “for men” even though it’s that moniker isn’t really necessary.
75% kilts. Plus the same old celeb shots. And pronouncing “Versace” as Ver-sauce‽! I am not at all impressed with this piece. It fails to show any of the regular men wearing skirts and does a poor, lightweight rehash of the obvious, despite claiming to show a true, growing trend. Oh well.
That is true, but I still think videos like this are important because they are still trying get the idea of “men in skirts” to become more mainstream. The more videos, articles, etc there are, the more the word will spread. So even if the content isn’t great, the concept is still there and being publicized. 🙂
