As the weather continues to get warmer here in Europe, I’ve been thinking about ways to get myself even more comfortable with wearing skirts in public. Warmer weather generally means being outdoors more often and this year, I’ve made a deal myself that I’m only going to wear skirts unless I really don’t feel like it.
One idea I had was to just go out and take a short walk every afternoon in whatever skirt I happen to be wearing. As a programmer, I’m often cramped up inside for most of the day working on my computer so it’s always nice to get out, get some movement, and feel the sunshine and breeze.
This idea would be beneficial for a couple of reasons. First, it would motivate me to get outside and exercise more than I have been. That’s, of course, always good for you. Secondly, it would give me a reason to leave the house in a skirt every day which I really do enjoy doing. It’s always a thrill even if it’s difficult to get over that initial hurdle of leaving my safe space at home — which is exactly what I want to work on and make easier.
By doing it every day at more or less the same time and conquering the hesitation by repetition and habit, I’m hoping to make it as easy as going out in jeans or shorts. Having a fixed time every day to get out and take a walk would help me tremendously in that regard.
Once the habit is established, I will be more likely to do it and by doing it repeatedly, I should get used to overcoming that ugly hurdle. That’s, at least, how it should work in theory. I’m certainly going to give it a real try and see how well it works. I’ll report back on it here at a later date.
What do you think of the idea? Would that be something you think would help you? Let me know in the comments below!
Not a bad idea at all. In fact, it is a very good idea for the reasons you mentioned.
I have gotten to the point that I’m wearing a kilt every day and everywhere I (we) go. Most people either do not notice or do not care. I do, however, know that “some” do notice – because I have gotten four nice comments in the last two evenings when my wife and I went out to local bars/lounges for live entertainment.
I’ve found it helps a lot! The weather has been very wet here, so I haven’t been very consistent yet, but I’m hoping to once the weather gets nicer.
It’s great that you get compliments! It’s always a great feeling when people notice and compliment you on it!
It is really impowering to be comfortable wearing a skirt in public. I live across the street from a high school and go for walks through the parking lot a couple times a week, mostly around lunch time so there are more kids and teachers outside. My grandson plays soccer for the school’s team and I have become the teams unofficial photographer and I always wear a skirt when taking the pictures. The more you wear your skirts the more confident you will become, and the more you will want to wear them.
I agree, it really is impowering. Sounds like your experience as the unofficial photographer in a skirt has been very positive so far.
Yeah, just go for it. I’m giving my dog 4 or 5 walks every day while beskirted (well, almost, not counting Sundays) and I feel like being used to wearing skirts. I’ve been “doing things” in skirts too, things that require visiting and talking to someone or going somewhere.
It is still far away from warm weather in this “Middle Europe” but there’s a bunch of skirts to use during cloudy and rainy days too (even if society interprets ‘skirt’ as this mini variant).
I’ve taken several beskirted walks now and they have always been very energizing. I come back home feeling much more confident as well as generally better from the exercise. When the weather here in central Europe gets better, I’m definitely going to go on longer walks and more consistently.
You are a programmer?
Of course I have no data, but I think one of these is true:
A) Programmers are more likely to cross gender clothing boundaries/crossdress/be transgender than the general population,
or
B) Programmers who clothing boundaries/crossdress/are transgender are more likely than similar people in the general population to post about it on the Internet.
I feel like there is a trend here.
Yes, I am a programmer and it’s funny that you say that because it’s a tendency I’ve also noticed. In fact, several of the programmers I’ve worked with in the past few years have also been into wearing gender-non-conforming clothing, are “femboys”, and/or have come out as transgender or crossdressers. It’s a very interesting phenomenon.
+1
Software engineer here. 😂
I love it! I don’t know what it is about software engineering, but it certainly seems to attract a lot of us gender-non-conforming people!
I like wearing skirts and I love wearing dresses. I’m 6’ 1”, bald with a large beard. I feel like men should be allowed, just like women, to wear what they want. The problem is that I live in the US, specifically California and I am afraid of what could happen to me (specifically a long hospital stay or even death) if I go out in a dress. I’m having a real problem getting over that one.
I definitely agree that men should be allowed the wear whatever they want no matter how they look. It should be just as acceptable for them to wear skirts or dresses as women! I can understand the fear. I have to admit that I’ve never worn a skirt or anything in public in the US. I’ve only done it in Germany which tends to be more liberal and open minded than most of the US.
It’s a good idea. Your time is well-structured, so adding this in will be relatively easy to effect. My days are rather more a jumble, but I go out as needed (in fact, most days) and usually beskirted. It’s quite nice, y’know!
It has definitely been easy for me to integrate into my daily schedule. At least you still go out in a skirt even if your days are a jumble!
The more positive exposure of guys in GNC styles is only a good thing. This is a great idea.
I agree!
